Friends:
The votes are in and counted. While the results were not what I was hoping for, I had such a wonderful experience meeting so many fellow residents of Falls Church and I am proud of my campaign and the conversations it created. I am thrilled that the principles transparency, budget transparency, accountability and leadership with integrity which I was one of the first to articulate in our community have become part of the vernacular here in Falls Church!
I want to thank everyone who supported me, from hopeful donors to my indomitable poll watchers. I appreciate all the help, love and moral support I received. I especially want to thank my family and husband Dave who so wholeheartedly supports everything I do every single day!
One in three voters voted against the bond referendum so I know that I represented a point of view that is no small faction in our community. I plan to stay very much engaged in the discussion in order to contribute to the best outcome possible for Falls Church. Please stay tuned to www.FallschurchFacts.com for details of next steps.
During my campaign I made specific suggestions to create oversight and accountability mechanisms for our school board such as creating committees such as Budget and Finance, Construction and Facilities and Innovations in Education and Curriculum. I hope the board will lighten their workload by inviting qualified citizens to serve with them on the committees. I also suggested that there should be a permanent financial report item on every school board agenda so the board is aware of how money is being spent. I hope the new board will take up my suggestions.
The documents that I obtained through Freedom of Information requests such as the Grunley Contract (on Mt. Daniel), the payment applications on this contract, construction meeting minutes, invoices on purchases should be available to all on boarddocs.
I look forward to continuing to support and work on other issues important to me in our schools and to help make Falls Church the best it can be. Stay tuned and stay engaged.
Alison
You ran an excellent campaighn. Thank you for your hard work and effort!
Thank You, Alison! You were my favorite candidate and Falls Church City would have benefited greatly from your knowledge and experience. However, I believe you will be even more effective asking tough questions, attending School Board and City Council meetings and representing all of the Falls Church citizens just as you have done every day for many years. We continue to support you!
Well said Charles. If FCC knows anything it’s that Alison is devoted, consistent, determined, and doesn’t just go away. Alison, you are simply stated, a gem.
